Gene Information

What is a Gene?
A Gene is a biological unit of the body which provides the directions for the body to function. It consists of Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) and determines an individual’s inherited traits.

Gene Mutations and Diseases

Our Genes are constantly subjected to mutations and some mutations may lead to diseases. All diseases have a genetic base, whether resulting from the body's response to environmental stresses like viruses and toxins or even from inheritance. It is possible for diseases to be passed down through generations of the family as Genes can be inherited from parents or previous generations in the family.

Genetic mutations, under the influence of environmental factors, can make even a healthy person susceptible to developing certain diseases or physiological imbalances.

Genes in Development
Genes have also been found to dictate the talents and abilities of people, which serve to explain why some people appear to be naturally-gifted in performing certain tasks while others apparently cannot get the same done despite persistent attempts.

In recent times, the genetic make-up of people has also been found to have direct relationships with certain aspects of their characters and personalities. This could account for the reason why people who grow up in the same environment can turn out differently in terms of temperament and disposition, and why certain aspects of personalities are almost impossible to alter.

How Tests are done:

There are only a few simple steps.

A DNA sample of the individual is needed. Collection of the DNA sample is done by using a DNA swab which is painless, non-invasive and the whole procedure should take less than a
few minutes.

  Step 1:

Use a DNA swab

  Step 2:

Place the swab against the interior wall of your cheek
and gently scrape, moving the swab in an in-out
movement. Repeat this motion for 15 times on each
cheek.

  Step 3:

Place the swab into the collection package and
seal it.

The DNA sample is collected which is then delivered to our state-of-the-art Genetic Laboratory for analysis after which a detailed report is produced.

The individual will collect his/her report.
